This post isn't truly about thrifting, but of course I buy my travel bags at Goodwill. So far I have purchased a Brookstone bag that fits the Spirit restrictions (score!) and have spotted both tumi and samsonite as well!
How can you save on travel other than thrifting? Packing light. Not only can you save on baggage fees, it's so much easier to roll around a little compact suitcase. Especially when traveling on the train/bus/car between cities, packing light just makes travel easier. But packing for a 10-day trip takes some thought, especially when you aren't sure what the weather will be like. On my November trip to Ukraine, I knew the weather would be one thing, COLD. I packed a bunch of layers that could mix and match, but I still wish I had packed a bit differently. Read on to find out my tips for packing 10 days of winter outfits in a carry on.

What I Brought
I essentially followed the law of Pinterest, which boils down to: Bring pieces with a color palate that can mix and match. Everything I picked fit well into my small wheeled carry on and shoulder bag. It was a bonus that I didn't feel like I was running out of combinations at any point. I even felt like I didn't really need a few pieces.

Packing List
- 2 Dresses
- 5 pairs of pants (2 corduroy, 2 jeans, 1 leggings)
- 4 cotton shirts
- 1 sweater
- 2 coats (1 parka, 1 wool)
- 4 middle layers (1 blazer, 2 cardigans, 1 vest)
- 3 pairs of shoes (sneakers, Uggs, booties)
- Accessories (1 hat, 1 gloves, 1 tights, 3 scarves)
What I Could Have Left Behind
- Sneakers With all the walking, I couldn't believe I didn't wear my Nikes once! My other shoes were completely comfortable and I wore the Ugg boots most of the time.
- Green dress It was too thin. If it was a sweater material maybe I would have worn it, but anything I needed a dress for called for the black one.
- Black cardigan I thought I would be layering a lot, but that was just annoying and uncomfortable. The vest and blazer worked most days.
- Wool coat I cannot stress enough, it was SO COLD, every single day. I wore this coat once, but the parka was my go to.
What I Wish I Had Brought
- Another Hat I wore a hat every day when I was sightseeing. That means you can't distinguish between days in my photos. It looks like I saw all of Kiev in one day!
- Thicker Shirts I thought layering would work, but I could have used one or two more warm sweaters, much easier than trying to layer my cardigans.
- Long Underwear I actually packed the thermalite ones I use for skiing and then took them out! We did a lot of walking and even in my two pairs of cords my legs were frozen.
My Recommendations for Your Trip
Surprise, surprise, they all have to do with the cold!

- Don't skimp on cold weather accessories. Bring multiple hats and scarves so you can stay warm and look great!
- Bring a heavy parka. I wore my heavy coat every day and put the hood over my hat when the wind was harsh. I recommend a long coat that goes past your hips!
- Figure out whether you want to layer. If I go again, I will skip the layering and just bring some thick, warm sweaters.
